One small GA4 problem that becomes expensive later
Practical GA4 insights for cleaner tracking and better analysis.
One of the most common GA4 problems is inconsistent event naming.
At first, nobody notices.
A developer creates:click
Later someone adds:Click_Button
Then:btn_click
Everything still “works.”
Reports populate. Dashboards are configured to report on all variations and everybody understand how events are named.
But over time, analysis becomes harder because the data is fragmented across different naming styles.
This is one reason many GA4 setups slowly become difficult to trust.
Good analytics isn’t only about collecting data.
It’s also about consistency and governance.
You don’t have to undertake a massive GA4 governance project right away, but even a simple naming standard:
lowercase
underscores
descriptive names
can prevent a surprising amount of reporting pain later. The sooner you start, the better you will start to ease the pain that is either already happening is about to happen.
